It would be hard not to have such thoughts. While a parent may take into consideration their child\u2019s opinion about a decision, a parent\u00a0<strong><em><u>MUST<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0make the decision based upon what the parent believes serves the child\u2019s best interests, even if the child may disagree. Effective parenting is not about garnering the child\u2019s approval but doing what the PARENT believes best for the child\u2019s present and future well-being. This is especially true as the magnitude of the decision increases. If a parent occasionally allows their child to have ice cream and cake for dinner instead of a balanced meal because the child prefers ice cream and cake, deferring to the child will not have a long-term impact on the child\u2019s life. But always allowing a child to spend time playing video games instead of doing their homework will have big consequences for the child\u2019s future. A birth mother who believes that an adoptive home will enable her child to enjoy a happy, successful life is\u00a0<strong><em><u>CLEARLY<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0a course of action that a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianaadoption.com\/im-pregnant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">birth mother<\/a><\/strong> needs to make regardless of what the child may think of the decision at some future time.
