Thinking About Adoption in Indiana? Connect With Us
If you are pregnant and thinking about placing your baby for adoption in Indiana, you may have a lot of questions.
You may be wondering:
- How does adoption work in Indiana?
- Do I have to decide right away?
- Can I choose the family who adopts my baby?
- What type of adoption can I have?
- What happens at the hospital?
- Will I have contact with my child after the adoption?
- Can someone help me understand my options?
These are all normal questions. You do not have to figure out everything today.
Adoption Is Your Decision
No one should pressure you or make the decision for you. Giving your baby up for adoption is a personal decision. As an expectant mother, you have the right to learn about your options, ask questions, and take the time you need to decide what is best for you and your baby.
You Don’t Have to Decide Right Away
Talking with an experienced adoption attorney can help you understand what adoption actually looks like and what your options are. At Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C., (sometimes misspelled “Kirsch & Kirsch”) we believe that learning about adoption should never mean that you are obligated to move forward.
Create an Adoption Plan That Fits You
If you decide that adoption is right for you, you can create an adoption plan based on your wishes and comfort level. Your adoption plan can include decisions about:
- The type of adoptive family you would like for your baby
- Whether you want an open, semi-open, or closed adoption
- How much contact you would like with the adoptive family
- What kind of communication you want after placement
- What you would like your hospital experience to look like
Your adoption plan is about your wishes for your baby and your future. You can ask questions and discuss your preferences throughout the process.
You Can Choose the Adoptive Family
One of the things that surprises many expectant mothers is that you can choose the family who will adopt your baby. You may have an opportunity to review profiles of prospective adoptive families and learn about their lives, values, interests, family relationships, and hopes for the future. Depending on your comfort level, you may also be able to communicate with or meet prospective adoptive parents before deciding.
You Don’t Have to Go Through This Alone

Positive adoption language Disclaimer:
Please understand that these blogs are written in a way to use language that people use when searching for help with their adoption plans. Unfortunately, while all of us understand what positive adoption language means, most expectant moms who come to us at first do not understand what that means. The most common search term on the Internet for pregnant moms is “How do I give up my baby for adoption.” If we do not include those words in our blog posts and instead put “How do I create an adoption plan for my baby,” then our website will not show up in most expectant moms’ search results in Google.
