Due Any Day or Just Gave Birth With No Plan? We Answer 24/7

By: Grant Kirsh

Maybe you hid your pregnancy. Maybe you spent nine months hoping things would change. Maybe you did not even know you were pregnant until recently. And now the baby is coming, or already here, and you have no plan.

Take a breath. You are not out of time, and you are not alone. At Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C., we call these surprise baby situations, and we usually have one or two going at any given time. We are a family-run Indiana adoption law firm with nearly 50 years of experience, and we know exactly how to help you right now.

We Answer Our Phones 24/7/365

This is not a slogan. When you call Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C. at 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, on a holiday or a weekend, a real person from our office answers. You can call or text from the hospital bed, from the waiting room, or from home. We can start your entire adoption plan by phone and text.

What Happens When You Call From the Hospital

We listen first. Then, if you want to move forward, things can happen quickly and calmly. We speak with the hospital social worker so the staff understands your wishes. We know the hospitals, social workers, and doctors across Indiana, in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend, Carmel, Fishers, Bloomington, Hammond, Gary, Muncie, Lafayette, Terre Haute, Kokomo, Anderson, Greenwood, and beyond. We have even handled adoptions for many of those social workers and doctors themselves. Our on-staff licensed social worker, Jordyn Mercer, helps make sure the plan at the hospital matches your wishes.

We text you family profiles right away, from our more than 100 carefully screened waiting families. Even on a short timeline, you still choose. All of our families are carefully screened, so you really cannot make a bad decision.

Your Rights Do Not Shrink Because Time Is Short

Everything that protects a birth mother with a nine-month plan protects you too. Under Indiana Code 31-19-9-2(b), you cannot sign a consent until after your baby is born, and the Indiana Hospital Association policy, which our firm helped draft, recommends waiting no sooner than 24 hours after a normal delivery or 48 hours after a c-section, but you can sign any time you want after the baby is born. You get as much time with your baby in the hospital as you want. You can have your own independent attorney, paid for by the adoptive family. We were the first in Indiana to offer that. And our services are 100% free to you.

If You Are Thinking About Leaving the Hospital Without a Plan

Some mothers in this situation think about just walking away, or about a Safe Haven surrender. Before you do either, please call us first. A quick phone call gives you options that anonymous Safe Haven surrender cannot: choosing the family, receiving updates for 18 years, financial help, counseling covered by the adoptive family, and support for you as a person, not just a delivery. We wrote a full post comparing Indiana’s Safe Haven Law with making an adoption plan.

And if you already took your baby home without a plan, that door is open too. We have completed many placements for mothers after they brought their babies home, just in the last six months. Time is of the essence, so reach out sooner rather than later.

No Plan Is Not the Same as No Options

You do not need months of preparation. You need one phone call to people who do this every day. This is a judgment free zone, and everyone here is friendly and understands where you are.
