Post adoption updates provide birth parents more than just a window into the adoptee’s life. These updates give birth parents the peace of mind they need in order to feel confident in their decision. Contrary to what many prospective adoptive parents might believe, these updates do not increase the likelihood that the birth parents will later change their mind and try and reclaim the child.
If you are pregnant and considering adoption make sure whomever is helping you with your adoption plan has offered you annual updates for at least 18 years. You may or may not be interested in these updates initially, but over time you may become curious how your child is doing. For that reason it is important that you have these updates available to you as long as possible.
