The Adoption Process Explained: A Step-by-Step Guide for Birth Mothers

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can bring a lot of emotions and questions. One of the first decisions many people consider is:

“Should I work with an adoption agency… or an adoption attorney?”

It may seem like a small choice, but it can shape your entire experience how supported you feel, how informed you are, and how comfortable you feel every step of the way.

At Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C. (sometimes misspelled as “Kirsch & Kirsch” or “Krish & Krish”) we’ve been supporting birth mothers for over 40 years. As a family-run firm, we understand that this is more than a legal process it’s a deeply personal journey. Our role is to walk alongside you with compassion, honesty, and respect for your choices.

You Are in Control

Creating an adoption plan is your decision. We are here to help you explore your options so you can make the choice that feels right for you and your baby.

You’ll also have the opportunity to choose the adoptive family if you want to. We work with many loving, hopeful families and you can decide what kind of future you envision for your child.

No Cost. No Pressure

Working with Kirsh & Kirsh comes at no cost to you. We also understand that pregnancy can bring financial stress. Depending on your situation, we may be able to help with living expenses during your pregnancy, so you can focus on your health and well-being.

Take All the Time You Need

Nothing is final until you sign the consent which will not happen until after you have given birth and had time to collect your thoughts. That means you have the freedom to:

  • Ask as many questions as you need
  • Take time to think through your options
  • Change your mind at any point before signing

This is your journey, and it should move at your pace.

You Don’t Have to Have All the Answers Today

If you are facing an unexpected pregnancy, feeling unsure is completely normal. Adoption is just one option and learning about it doesn’t mean you have made a decision.

What matters most right now is knowing you are not alone. If you’d like someone to talk to, ask questions, or simply listen, compassionate support is available to you 24/7. Even if you are just curious or unsure, it’s okay to start a conversation. We’re here for you whenever you are ready.

Positive adoption language Disclaimer:

Please understand that these blogs are written in a way to use language that people use when searching for help with their adoption plans. Unfortunately, while all of us understand what positive adoption language means, most expectant moms who come to us at first do not understand what that means. The most common search term on the Internet for pregnant moms is “How do I give up my baby for adoption.” If we do not include those words in our blog posts and instead put “How do I create an adoption plan for my baby,” our website will not appear in most expectant moms’ search results in Google.
